IRL Backpack build

The best value 1080p IRL backpack build

A DIY belaBOX rig with a bonded uplink and a relay. Holds a stable 1080p60 IRL stream for a fraction of a prebuilt.

Holds 1080p60 on Twitch (standard)

Your encoder tops out at 1080p60. A higher-end encoder would go further.

The sweet spot of IRL

This is the rig most IRL guides converge on. An Osmo Pocket 3 for gimbal-smooth video, an Orange Pi 5 running belaBOX as the encoder, a Nighthawk modem for the uplink, and a relay so a dropped connection becomes a quick BRB instead of a restarted stream. It is a project to assemble, but it costs a fraction of a prebuilt and outperforms most of them.

Reliability is the whole point

belaBOX bonds your links with SRTLA and sends to a relay. That relay is what keeps you live: when a connection wobbles, the stream rides it out instead of disconnecting. The Pocket 3 pairs with a DJI mic so your audio stays in sync past the stream delay.

Pushing past 1080p60

On Twitch standard, 1080p60 is the practical ceiling at around 6000 kbps. To go higher you need both a higher-end encoder and a platform that accepts more bitrate. See the 2K build below for what that takes.
