Our take on the Audio-Technica AT2040USB
The Audio-Technica AT2040USB is a dynamic USB microphone with a hypercardioid pickup, a good fit for a streamer in a room that is not quiet. At a tracked $159 its price has not changed across 13 readings between July 13 and October 19, 2026, so there is no sale pattern to wait for.
The pickup focuses on your voice and cuts room noise and echo. A built-in headphone jack has a volume control for real-time monitoring. A touch mute button is silent, and an LED ring shows blue when live and red when muted. That ring is a quick glance check during a stream. USB-C output ships with an A to C cable and adapter. Retailers rate it 4.4 across 255 ratings.
- Silent touch mute with a blue and red LED ring
- Hypercardioid pickup aimed at room noise
- Headphone jack with volume control
- Price flat at $159, no sale seen
- Fewer ratings than other mics here: 255
- USB output only in the listing

We do not lab-test hardware. Ratings and review counts come from the retailer listing and are labelled as such; stream-quality figures are conservative planning budgets from our published model. Prices are tracked at build time, not live, and were last refreshed 2026-10-22. How the numbers are derived: methodology. How picks are chosen: editorial policy.
